You'll take an active part in improving our world by encouraging a healthy living environment and initiating better communication with those around you. Health Care Reform for Seniors

 |

Counselors at the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) at the Area 1 Agency on Aging recently attended extensive training sessions that focused on the new laws passed for health care reform. The two bills are the Patient Protection and Affordability Care Act of 2010 and Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010. The new legislation is wide-ranging and includes many changes to our health care system that will begin this year and continue to be implemented for the next several years.
Seniors should know that the new laws do not include any cuts to guaranteed Medicare benefits, according to Martha Johnson, HICAP manager. Medicare beneficiaries will be receiving a brochure from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services soon, outlining changes and improvements to their Medicare coverage.
